Western Interventionism Fails Sovereign Nations

Welcome back to him on this episode of Dave Talks, Politics Home Dave. Today we'll be talking politics about the Western Crusader instinct and why forcing change on sovereign nations keeps failing. We keep on trying this and it keeps on failing. Why? Why? Why? Why? Yeah and we're basically this is Larry Johnson. He's an ex-CIA former CIA analyst and he's on he's on a variety of YouTube shows and he's a fairly knowledgeable guy and he talked recently about this subject quite a bloody interesting discussion he made a powerful case against decades of American and Western meddling in internal affairs of other countries. He's arguing that nations like individuals have the sovereign right to evolve on their own timeline and according to their own rules you know if they want to do it that way it's up to them really it's none of our business you know I don't go for meddling in their affairs there are sovereign nations that's the principle that we're supposed to be applying that's the one we want others to apply to us. Johnson points out that history shows countries can and do change internally without crusades basically crusades external crusades coming into interfere the West's repeated attempts to engineer a regime change or impose its values have more often than not in Larry's view backfired creating chaos rather than stable democracies and I agree entirely with what he's been saying which is why I'm talking about it as well the Soviet Union example so the collapse of the of the Soviet Union one of the strongest pieces of evidence of Johnson's view the Soviet system imploded largely due to its own internal contradictions economic failure corruption ideological exhaustion and a loss of legitimacy in the world no foreign army invaded or Australia its war it fell from within it evolved as usually and dissolved on its very own this should have been a clear lesson sometimes the best thing outsiders can do is stay out let the internal dynamics play out inside that country without our own interference the pattern of Western meddling is so clear particularly the United States repeatedly acted as the global crusader the global policeman and the Chechen Wars for example external meddling complicated and already difficult internal conflict are from regime change operations in the Middle East to color revolutions and support for opposition groups the pattern is consistent the West often intervenes with the best intentions oh yes we're going to help out the people of you know square brackets we're going to help you're going to go in and the poor people in there we're going to bring them democracy you know there'll be a McDonald's on every corner and people will be happy with a large fries they get a large fries with that yeah poor understanding though of the local realities local politics local religion causes instability resentment and stronger authoritarian backlash basically every times a Kaganah sovereignty as the fundamental principle well Johnson's central point is simple and powerful just as a person sets the rules in their own home like you do sovereign nations have the right to determine their own system of governance forcing Western liberal democracy on societies with different histories with different cultures and social structures really works and often creates more problems than it actually solves our true evolution comes from within basically it always comes from within external pressures tend to unify populations that's happened so many times look a Vietnam you know the Americans came in and the Vietnamese people were like what the hell you're a lot pissed off and they all arm to the teeth got support from from from China and from Russia and they fall back and won the war against America yeah so we don't often reflect on that right you know you don't really hear you don't hear the fact the little fact that America's lost more wars and you know it's just they've just pretty much lost everything if they won a war I can't think of one that won you know I'm not sure yeah I don't I can't think of one you tell me in the comments below so yeah the Crusader instinct has damaged Western credibility and strategic position over time the bottom line team Larry Johnson and my view is bang on he's 100% right countries evolve on their own and the West's repeated attempts to play the Crusader the global Crusader by forcing Mac Donald's by forcing democratic change have mostly failed and created just unnecessary enemies and expense and hatred towards the American people the Soviet Union's collapse happened internally without foreign intervention they didn't invade they didn't know boots on the ground which proved that nations can transform themselves when the conditions are right sovereignty sovereignty in and of itself is not just a legal concept it's a practical reality that the West ignores at its own peril and we do we just can't help ourselves I think continuing this interventionist approach risks more strategic setbacks and further erosion of Western influence sometimes the widest the wisest foreign policy team as restraint and patience not constant meddling why do you have to go you know messing about in the politics of another sovereign nation what what you know what right do we have to go and you know mess about in Iran or in Iraq or in Yemen or in you know you name it we've been there with treacherous advice and there's plenty more on our bucket list there are plenty more so you know I think we really we collectively the people we really should push back on the system as it stands because it doesn't really give us the right to prevent you know the Congress is as apparently supposed to have the the only ones that can declare war on our another nation and yet the elected president just does it anyway you know so the system as it stands the the American system at least because they are the biggest power most powerful in the Western system that is broken because they they they rule mongers in the Western in the US in particular like Lindsey Graham for example as a classic example or Victorian Uland or you know Anthony Blinken or Sullivan or you know the long list of rule mongers that just want to go and break things for the hell but you know it's got nothing to do with the USA but they feel like they've got this need right they've got this need to go and you know impose their version of democracy on other states and it's just I think it's just absolutely wrong I think I think Larry Johnson is right I think what he's has he is said is quite fair and
